The Naked Man Orchid grows to 50cm tall and has an asterisk pattern of distinctive wavy leaves at the base of the plant. The leaves sometimes have brown spots. There are 3 or 4 more small leaves surrounding the stem. The flowers are carried in a dense inflorescence and are usually pale to dark pink in color.

Common throughout the Mediterranean region, this orchid grows in local but often dense flocks. It can be found in the Middle East, Malta, Cyprus, Turkey, the Aegean islands, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
This orchid grows in abandoned farmland, wooded areas, next to trails and paths, and especially in abundance near seashores.
