Cycnoches Orchid- Grow and Care

Cycnoches Orchid

Cycloches is a genus of sympathomimetic orchids from the Americas, growing in warm and hot climates. Cycnoches belong to the Catasetinae group of orchids and have distinctive and wonderful features that set them apart from other orchids. They have separate male and female flowers (unisexual), have many flowers, and never have hermaphroditic flowers. Male and female flowers appear on different plants, in inflorescences or rarely in the same inflorescence.

How to care for Cycnoches orchids: They need to be planted in small ceramic pots with a thick substrate containing bark and sphagnum moss, they need plenty of water and fertilizer, as they are large eaters.
Once flowers are visible, you should stop using fertilizers.
In the fall, after the plant has stopped flowering, reduce watering and when the leaves have dropped, stop watering until spring until the dormancy period ends and new growth begins to form. They really like bright sunlight and need high light levels (same for Cattleya) to bloom.
In addition, the difference between night and day temperatures is important for stimulating flowering. That is why it is better to keep these orchids outside during the warm season of the year.
