How to grow Trumpet lilies
Lily bulbs are best planted in the spring.
Lilies prefer alkaline soils.
Planting lilies in the garden
If grown in the garden, lilies prefer well-drained alkaline soil. If you’re unsure of your soil type, it’s best to plant your lilies in a pot/container.
Arrange the lilies in groups of odd numbers.
Plant the bulbs about 12-20cm (5-8″) apart. Spacing between groups is at least 60-90cm (2-3ft) apart.
Plant the bulbs with a 10-15cm (4-6″) layer of soil above them.
Planting lilies in pots
Find a location with full sun or partial shade, well-drained soil.
Arrange the lilies in groups of odd numbers.
Grow 3 bulbs in a 10-14″ ”yard type” pot using good quality, all-purpose compost
Plant the bulbs with a 10-15cm (4-6″) layer of soil above them.
Make sure there is enough drainage.
